EV Solutions to Support Local Authorities

SureCharge provides an end-to-end service for our local authority clients, assisting them with funding, installations, and the maintenance of their EV network.

Our simple plug and play solution slots into your lamp columns and transforms your existing infrastructure into smart internet-connected EV charging devices.

With the high demand faced by local authorities for accessible and convenient on-street charging, SureCharge offers a low cost, innovative, and easy to install solution.

By working with local authorities, we are able to help them provide a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and low impact solution for their boroughs, which in turn encourages residents to make the change to EV.

Take a Look at our EV Solutions:

In-Column

An In-Column Charger is an electric vehicle (EV) charging point integrated into existing street infrastructure such as, lampposts or utility poles.

Benefits Include:

Integration with Existing Infrastructure: These chargers are embedded into lampposts, utility poles, or other vertical structures, minimizing visual and physical clutter on the streets.

Space-Efficient: Since they utilize existing columns, they do not require additional space or land, making them ideal for urban environments where space is limited.

Convenience: By placing chargers within existing columns or urban fixtures, they can be strategically located in areas where vehicles are typically parked, such as along streets, in parking lots, or near residential areas.

On-Column

An On-Column EV Charger is an electric vehicle (EV) charging point that is mounted onto existing street infrastructure, such as lampposts or utility poles. This type of charger leverages existing structures to provide charging capabilities.

Benefits Include:

Mounted on Existing Structures: Attached to lampposts or utility poles.

Ideal for Urban Areas: Maximizes use of limited space.

Convenient Placement: Often located where vehicles are already parked.

DC Chargers

A DC Charger, also known as a DC Fast Charger or DC Rapid Charger, is a type of electric vehicle (EV) charging station that supplies direct current (DC) electricity directly to the vehicle’s battery. This type of charger is designed to provide significantly faster charging compared to AC (alternating current) chargers, which require the vehicle's onboard charger to convert AC to DC. Due to their speed, DC chargers are perfect for quick top-ups during long trips, reducing downtime and enabling long-distance travel.

Benefits Include:

High Power Output: DC chargers can charge an EV's battery to 80% in roughly 20 - 30 minutes, depending on the battery capacity and the charger’s power output.

Direct Current Supply: DC chargers typically offer power outputs ranging from 50 kW to 350 kW or more, allowing for much quicker charging times.

Implementing our Solution

With our Electric Vehicle charging solution we can create and implement a collaborative plan to achieve the EV charging network that suits both the needs of the local authority and its residents.

Working together we can ensure we provide the correct solution, in the correct location, and you can rely on FM Conway to deliver the installation and maintenance to suit your needs. By using AI technology, we review our location’s sustainability, social demographic, and geographical information, and make data-led decisions that ensure the optimum site is selected for your infrastructure.

Expanding Funding Solutions

Utilising our knowledge of London’s infrastructure, we work with our clients to leverage government funding and grants, such as LEVI/ORCS, to provide you with access to additional funding that supports your budgets.

Currently there are two types of funding available from the government:

How to Fund your EV charging strategy with the LEVI Scheme

The Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Scheme (LEVI) is a £450m scheme announced by the UK government in March 2022 as part of their electric vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Strategy. The scheme is open to local authorities in England and is designed to encourage the planning and roll-out of EV charging infrastructure across the UK. This is achieved through large-scale, ambitious and commercially sustainable projects that use significant private sector investment. The LEVI fund will target projects such as EV hubs and innovative on-street charging.

ORCS Funding Can Help Build your EV Charging Infrastructure

The On-street Residential charge point Scheme (ORCS) provides grant funding for local authorities to install residential on-street charge points. The aim of the scheme is to improve the availability of local electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for residents without off-street (private) parking.Through ORCS funding, local authorities can receive a grant covering up to 60% of residential charge point procurement and installation costs, and by working with SureCharge we can further assist with the funding of your scheme.

For help and assistance in applying for either scheme, we have an experienced team at SureCharge that can find the right funding solution to suit you.

Technology

FM Conway’s in-column SureCharge EV charging unit is simply and quickly installed into the column door, transforming existing street lighting columns into smart, cloud-connected EV charging points.

Employing patented technology, our chargers require no installation of additional earth mats, reducing disruption, installation time and the cost of deploying on-street charging. In addition, charging points can readily be moved from one location to another with the minimum of cost, ensuring that chargers are located at the most optimum location for residents and visitors alike.

With our network being connected, we provide valuable data insights, ensuring high availability and uptime whist providing valuable data and intelligence to local authorities, helping them determine current demand, trends, and future needs.

As each SureCharge chargers are SMART chargers, we can:

  • Constantly monitor performance in real time
  • Check availability and usage status
  • Identify faults and initiate fix first time repairs
  • Manage and balance charging demand – load balancing
  • Manage customer charging enquiries more efficiently and effectively
