Completing my work experience placement at FM Conway has been an incredibly valuable experience.
I knew that once I had completed my GCSEs, I needed to arrange some work experience. However, the challenge was knowing where to start and finding somewhere that would give me the opportunity.
My mum has worked for FM Conway for around seven years in the IT department, so I have had a connection to the company since then. I started coming along to the FM Conway Kids’ Christmas Parties when I was 9, and by the age of 12 I was even helping as an elf!
That was my first real introduction to the company, and even from attending the Christmas Parties, I could see how welcoming FM Conway was.
During my week of work experience, I had the opportunity to work closely with the Marketing team and see how they promote the company.
Some of my responsibilities included conducting market research, identifying competitors, and assisting with creating social media posts. I also learned how to use the different applications needed for editing and scheduling posts across social media platforms.
Throughout the week, I learned so many new skills and gained valuable experience that will help me in the future.
I was also given the opportunity to visit some of FM Conway’s live sites in the London Borough of Croydon. I was able to see first-hand how works are carried out and the improvements being made to the area surrounding Croydon Minster, helping to improve the local community.
As part of my visit, I was tasked with taking photographs of the site to capture and highlight the hard work being delivered by the team to complete the project.
Overall, this experience has shown me how varied a career in Marketing can be. This placement would not have been as valuable without the people who supported me throughout the week. The Marketing team took the time to help and encourage me, ensuring I had the best week.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have gained such valuable experience, and I look forward to developing my skills even further as I work towards a career in marketing.
