It’s already shaping up to be a busy start to the year at Conway House. However, I wanted to pause and reflect on priorities for the industry this year, in particular, what needs to be done to move the dial on achieving net zero roads.
For the past four years, FM Conway’s Technology Centre in Gravesend has had the privilege of supporting the Royal Engineers of the British Army in their vital training.
The Royal Engineers, known as the Sappers, are highly skilled combat engineers, trained not only as soldiers but also to build and maintain essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and fortifications.
This summer, we were honoured to welcome a team of Royal Engineers to our UKAS-accredited laboratory. During their visit, the engineers toured our testing facilities and explored our advanced research and development work in bitumen, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt materials.
Alex Soles, Lecturer from The Royal School of Military Engineering, shared:
Thank you ever so much to you all for once again providing an outstanding visit. Feedback from the course has been very positive—they really appreciated the initial walk-around chat, describing it as ‘real talk’ that offered an invaluable overview shaped by many years of experience.
The labs looked immaculate and were very impressive for the soldiers. Your staff were knowledgeable and professional, and they provided an excellent reflection on FM Conway. All questions were answered thoroughly, and the key takeaways and learning objectives were achieved.
Thank you once again for supporting the Royal Engineers and helping to develop future military engineers. They’ll all be very busy after graduation, with international deployments coming up within weeks of finishing.
At FM Conway, we’re proud to share our expertise in materials innovation, supporting those who serve our country with engineering excellence.
