FM Conway has been recognised as the gold standard for the past five years by the Society. The company was in particular commended for the success of its People First health and safety programme. Launched in 2013, the company-wide campaign aims to drive a behavioural shift in attitudes towards health and safety to ensure that FM Conway’s employees, partners and members of the public go home safe at the end of every day.
A key part of the campaign has been focused on improving near-miss reporting as a proactive rather than a reactive approach to health and safety management. Employees can now report near misses via an innovative near miss app developed in-house by FM Conway, and a comprehensive communications and training programme has reiterated the importance of reporting potential hazards before accidents occur. Since the introduction of the new app, the company has seen a 1,500 per cent increase in the number of near misses reported.
Andrew Cox, director of safety, health, environment and quality at FM Conway, commented: “We are honoured to have been recognised with a RoSPA Gold Medal. This award is a testament to FM Conway’s long-term commitment to lead health and safety best practice in the construction industry. We are committed to improving our performance year on year and to developing new innovations to respond to the needs of our workforce and ensure that everyone continues to go home safe.”
