Apprenticeships

Apprentices are crucial to the future success of our business. At FM Conway, we are committed to attracting, developing, and retaining the best talent. To do this, we ensure our apprentices are supported throughout their apprenticeship journey to have a successful career in their chosen field.

Apprenticeships are a great way to achieve a qualification while also gaining valuable workplace experience. Whether you’re coming straight from school or college, or already have a few years’ experience and are looking for a career change, you will be supported every step of the way.

Whether you are looking for a site-based role, an office role, or a combination of the two, we have many great opportunities available across the business. We currently have apprentices working in fields such as Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Highways Maintenance, within our Asphalt Laboratories, and within our Head Office functions (Commercial, HR, and Business Administration).

We are always looking at opportunities within the business where we can continue to introduce apprentice opportunities.

What Apprenticeship is Right for Me?
The most appropriate apprenticeship for you will depend on your current level of study, grades achieved, and your career choice.

Advanced
Higher
Degree / Masters
Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 and 5 Level 6 and 7
Apprenticeships at this level are equivalent to GCSEs. You do not typically require any existing qualifications to enrol on a Level 2 apprenticeship.
These apprenticeships offer more specialised knowledge and skills are equal to A Levels. Candidates typically already hold GCSEs, particularly in Maths and English.
These apprenticeships focus on higher-level professional skills and can be equal to a foundation degree, a Higher National Certificate (HNC), or a Higher National Diploma (HND). Typically, candidates will need to have GCSEs and a Level 3 qualification, such as A-Levels or a BTEC.
These apprenticeships lead to a full bachelor's or master's Degree. Training providers have their own entry requirements that typically include A-Levels (or equivalent). They may also specify certain subjects studied and grades achieved.

Don’t let the level of apprenticeship put you off! It may be suitable to start on a lower-level apprenticeship, such as a Level 2, even if you already hold a higher-level qualification. This will ensure you have the basic knowledge of the trade or profession you want to pursue. Through conversations with your line manager and the Learning & Development team, we can discuss opportunities for further progression following completion of your initial apprenticeship qualification.

Apprentice Enrichment Programme

FM Conway’s Apprentice Enrichment Programme runs across the first two years of an apprentice’s employment. It has been designed to support with the transition from an education setting to the workplace, ensuring you start your career on the right foot.

Topics covered are designed to encourage self-reflection, introduce apprentices to commercial terms and learn more about the business, and offer support with personal and career development.

After apprentices have completed the 2-year programme, they will have the confidence and tools needed to take charge of their own development for the remainder of their apprenticeship programme and ongoing career.
