Merton Highway Works and Services Term Contract

FM Conway has been delivering highways and infrastructure services to the London Borough of Merton for over 30 years. In 2012, we were awarded a new five year NEC3 Term Services Contract to carry out a broad spectrum of highway works and services within the borough. Our first major project was to prepare the local highway network for the Olympic Torch Relay and deliver the Olympic Route Network to facilitate secure access to the tennis competition at Wimbledon.

Challenges and Solutions

Destination Wimbledon
Our team delivered a series of measures to improve both the functionality and aesthetics of the Town Centre and area surrounding Wimbledon Station. This project included high-quality york stone paving, new benches, street furniture, public art installations and LED strip lighting.

Annual Resurfacing Programme
Each year, FM Conway delivers carriageway maintenance consisting of road reconstruction, joint repairs, resurfacing using high PSV materials, drainage improvements and road marking. The 2016/17 programme includes works on the Principal Road Network and more than 40 local roads.

Rediscover Mitcham
Rediscover Mitcham is a three year project designed to create an attractive town centre. To date our team has completed landscaping works at Fair Green, refurbished the historic Clock Tower, created a new market area and implemented a ‘shared space’ scheme at Majestic Way.

Willow Lane Tramlink Span Bridge
Willow Lane has a number of road over rail bridges, all of which were under strength and had been closed to vehicular traffic. FM Conway carried out strengthening and refurbishment works including the installation of 22 steel ties bars within the three arch spans of the bridge.
