FM Conway Wins Prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award

Leading infrastructure services company FM Conway has received further recognition for its work surrounding road safety, winning the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award at a ceremony in December 2023.

Widely considered to be the top road safety award in the world, this is an annual honour presented by His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent since 1987, that recognises outstanding achievement and innovation in improving road safety globally.

FM Conway earned this prestigious accolade for its transformational approach to the management of occupational road risk within its company, winning in the ‘Safer Road Users’ category.

The award now marks an enviable milestone for FM Conway and solidifies the business’ commitment to improving its health and safety practices for its people, and wider users of the road network.

Delivered as part of the business’ 10-year health and safety strategy, FM Conway’s occupational road risk initiative is an ongoing commitment to eliminate harm on the roads by introducing new technologies to its fleet, and training processes to its people.

The initiative has already proved to be an overwhelming success and demonstrated that there has been a 62% reduction in road traffic crashes involving personal injury, as well as a 99% reduction in insurance claims paid in the past year.

This latest accolade adds to FM Conway’s growing successes in road safety, following previous recognition at regional and national level within the UK. The business won the Constructing Excellence Award for ‘Health, Safety and Wellbeing Excellence’, and the National Highways Award for ‘Exceptional Contribution to Road User Safety’ in 2022.

FM Conway has a longstanding history of championing road safety, evidenced by becoming one of the first companies in the world to achieve certification to ISO 39001, the world’s first international standard for Road Traffic Safety systems.

The business’ late Chairman Michael Conway was also a notable advocate for road safety, having received an MBE for his services to UK Construction, Infrastructure Support and Road Safety in 2017.

FM Conway SHEQ Managing Director, Andrew Cox, said:

“We have always made great strides in the name of road safety, but this is truly an honour for FM Conway. We feel very privileged to be recognised by Prince Michael of Kent.

“We hope that our work to reduce risk in this area continues to be noticed. This is our top risk as a business and the risk we’re working hardest to mitigate to ensure that everyone on the road can go home safe every day.”
