FM Conway recognised for rail safety excellence

Leading infrastructure services company FM Conway has joined an exclusive group of specialist rail contractors after receiving London Underground’s prestigious BEACON site safety and welfare award for its work on the Four Lines Modernisation (4LM) programme.

The BEACON award, which recognises contractors who demonstrate best practice in site management, was awarded to FM Conway’s Lillie Bridge Depot site in south-west London, where the company is currently constructing a new Signal Equipment Room (SER). The project is part of a £5 million package of works won by FM Conway last year under the 4LM programme. The contract will see the business construct five new SERs across the London Underground network.

“It’s fantastic to see that we’ve got off to such a great start on our first major rail construction contract with London Underground. We take site safety very seriously as a business and this award is a glowing testimony to the excellent health, safety and welfare culture embedded within FM Conway, as well as the skill and hard work of the entire contract team. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of London Underground’s safety team and we are pleased to be working in close partnership with them.”

Wayne added: “We won’t be resting on our laurels and I look forward to working to secure BEACON status for our other SER sites.”

The BEACON award scheme is a bespoke safety and welfare initiative created by London Underground to address the particular health, safety and welfare demands of working on the Underground network, where construction sites are often situated in highly congested locations and surrounded by an operational rail transport system. Achieving BEACON status not only recognises excellent standards of safety and welfare practices but also the rigorous planning processes needed to ensure the smooth running of one of London’s most important transport systems.
